Along side the super small and lightweight Cyber-shot HX50V, Sony also introduced in Europe the Handycam HDR-GW66VE rugged pocket camcorder.
Ready to capture every moment in your adventure, the Handycam is IP58-rated for waterproof to a depth of 10 meters (compare to 5 meters of its brother GW77) and dustproof, and meets MIL-STD 810 standard to withstand drops from 1.5m meters. It is also freezeproof to -10C and resistant to dirt.
Same as Sony GW77, the Sony GW66 is equipped with a 20.back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS Sensor to record 1920×1080/50p Full HD video, and a 10x optical zoom Sony G lens to capture scenes near and far. The Extended Zoom technology can boost the zoom range to 17x without sacrificing image quality, and the Optical SteadyShot with Active mode make sure videos can be recorded without hand shakes and blur. Videos are recorded in AVCHD or web-friendly MP4 (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264) or MPEG-2 (Video) formats.
Shooting good self-portraits is made simple with a conveniently-positioned self-recording button on the front, which allows self-shooting of movies and still photos with Handycam held at arm’s length. The pocket camcorder has a 3-inch Clear Phto LCD display and a HDMI output. It uses Memory Stick Micro (M2) or MicrSD/SDHC/SDXC card for storage. Measuring 108.5 × 32.5 ×70 mm, the GW66 weighs 188g.
